Beta-Testers Wanted (You get $500)

Today's spam message comes to us courtesy of doris.heyman@gmail.com. I'm not sure if Doris is or was a real person, but right now her email address is being used to try to get people to click some very sketchy links.

I've removed all of them from the following, but they were redirects from the imnicamail server that looked like this: http://product1.7173.clicksurecpa.com/ I also took out a tricky little image they included at the end of the message. It was only a pixel or two wide and unfortunately it wasn't blocked by my mail program, and since it was downloaded with a little php script, the spammers know that my email address is active. Do not under any circumstances open any emails with the above title. Remember, if it looks too good to be true, it always is.

Also, for what it's worth, I couldn't find a Heavner Court in Westbury, New York.

Sad News.....................Roger Thompson.

This type of message has been going around for decades, long before boner pills were even invented. They serve two purposes. The first is evident: To scam money out of the people who receive it. In this case, it came from the fairly generic Roger Thompson who somehow managed to score the rogerthompson@rogers.com email address. I don't personally know anyone out there named Roger Thompson, but many people might.

The second purpose is slightly less well-known: It helps spammers find out which email addresses are still active. There are millions of addresses out there whose owners have stopped using them for whatever reason, and they are therefore of no use to spammers. Any response to this message, whether a quick 'Fuck you' or an 'Oh my, Roger, that's terrible. How can I help?' shows the spammers that the email address is still in use. So, regardless of your desire to tell these people where to stick it, you should really just ignore the message as you would one that's offering you 80% off Levitra.

This particular email is relatively well-crafted, however it's clear that it's both a scam and written by someone for whom English is a second language. The slight sense of urgency it engenders might cause some people to respond without thinking; mainly the elderly, unfortunately, but not exclusively.

Hello,

I am sorry for reaching you rather too late due to the situation of things right now.My family and I had a trip visiting Manila Philippines, everything was going on fine until last night when we got attacked by some unknown gunmen. All our money, phones and credit cards was stolen away including some valuable items, It was a terrible experience but the good thing is that they didn't hurt anyone or made away with our passports.

We have reported the incident to the local authorities and the consulate but their response was too casual, we were ask to come back in 2 weeks time for investigations to be made proper,But the truth is we can't wait till then as we have just got our return flight booked and is leaving in few hours from now but presently having problems sorting out our bills here and also getting a cab down to the airport,Right now we're financially strapped due to the unexpected robbery attack, Wondering if you can help us with a quick loan to sort out our bills and get back home. All we need is (3,100 USD), I promise to refund you in full as soon as I return hopefully tomorrow or next. write back now to let me know what you can do.

Thank You.
Roger.

FREE LIFETIME PASS TO SEX WHENEVER YOU WANT - NEVER CockBlocked

While it would be nice to have a free pass to sex whenever I want, I don't think this message comes from a particularly trustworthy source. I mean, would you trust a man named 'Never Cockblocked' who sends you messages from such ludicrous email addresses as sjplndt@xlitwmhid.com and warpqfme@vstetqnjt.com?

I've gotten this one with two different links, both to Russian domains: datingvale.ru and datingvafi.ru. I wouldn't recommend clicking either one.

You have a new message in your inbox -LinkedIn Manager

No, spammers, I do not have a new message in my inbox. I don't even use LinkedIn on a regular basis, so I doubt I'll ever get a message there. Does LinkedIn even have a messaging system? I don't know. Probably.

The html to this was broken, so I had to fix it when I pasted it into Blogger. That's a bit annoying. If you're going to the trouble of sending out spam, you should at least make sure it's not buggy before you send it.

The links go to a site that ends with ~artwan/mosque.html, which may or may not mean anything. Once again, I suggest that you absolutely do not click them if you get this email. I've stripped out the domains, so the links below go nowhere.
